It is important to keep well-understood safety guidelines in mind when making the simple decision on bedding for the infant. There are many organizations that review and recommend safe ideas for crib bedding. There are safety guidelines in place for a reason; you don’t want your child to suffocate in his or her sleep.

These recommendations advise that a baby should sleep on his or her back with no soft or loose bedding in the crib. Among things that should never be allowed in an infant’s crib, blankets and other soft items are included. In order to adhere to these guidelines, the only bedding you need in the crib is a mattress with a snug fitted sheet. For safety reasons, blankets placed in cribs need to be well-secured near the end of the crib and should not come up higher than the baby’s chest.
